Citysurfing Data Policy

Citysurfing takes data protection and people's privacy very seriously and we are committed to complying with international data protection laws. This data policy describes the information we collect and process to support our services.

What kinds of information do we collect?

To provide the Citysurfing services, we must process information about you. The types of information we collect are solely limited to our mission of helping travelers and local hosts around the world connect using our platform. You can access, modify, and delete your personal information by visiting your Account Settings.

Data we collect during signup

  • Your first and last name. During sign up, we collect your first and last name to make it easier to identify who you are. This allows the Citysurfing admin team to secure and protect your account. To protect your privacy, platform users are only able to view your first name until you either provide that information to them or they make a confirmed booking.

  • Your email address. During signup, we collect your email address. Your email address and secret password are used by you to access and navigate our platform.

Citysurfing also uses your email address to communicate automated messages for the following platform functions:

  • Signup

  • Account Creation

  • Listing Creation

  • Booking Confirmation

  • Messages Alerts

Data we collect after signup

  • An image of you. When you create a profile and listing page, you are asked to add a recent photo of yourself. This makes it easier for both travelers and local hosts to identify each other at the onset of their appointments.

  • Your location. We ask that you provide your location (City/Country -or- City/Area). Before travelers and local hosts can determine if they will meet, they will need to know where they are located in proximity to each other. When you update your location, you make it easier for people to connect with you when they use our platform.

  • Languages You Speak. Our platform makes it easy for people that speak different languages to connect with local hosts that also speak that language. In order to create a host listing, you will need to let our users know what languages you know so that others might book you as a host.

  • Personal description. We allow our users to add a personal description to their profile page. A description allows users to get a better understanding of who you are and the things you like to do. This improves the user experience for both travelers and local hosts because it makes it easier for both travelers and hosts to connect with people that share similar interests.
